Healthy tailgating recipes to help put more healthy choices on your table.

Hot wings, deviled eggs, cheeseburgers and beer.

It’s tailgating season, and what better way to spend your Sunday than cheering on the Titans? While it’s a fun way to spend the day with your family, the tailgating diet can be less than healthy.

By filling your buffet line with healthier options, you can pile your plate with less guilt. Some ideas:

  • Buffalo Cauliflower Bites: These bites will give you the heat without the calories of fried wings. Add celery and carrots on the side, and you’ll get a good fill of veggies.
  • Turkey Burgers: Burgers are necessary at tailgating, but substitute turkey for a beef patty and you’ll find yourself with healthier grub.
  • Black Bean and Corn Salad: Just say no to the mayonnaise-laden salads. Try instead a quick and easy vegetable salad. Beans, corn, red pepper, onions and a splash of hot sauce help make this side dish a winner.
  • Cheesy Spinach Dip: If it’s not a tailgate without a dip, then check out this healthy spinach dip recipe. Unlike most, this spinach dip ditches the mayo, sour cream and butter but keeps its delicious taste!

For the beer drinkers out there, skip the heavy IPAs and porters and stick with light beers. And remember, drink a bottle of water before grabbing another one. Keeping a one-for-one pace will help keep you hydrated.
