A staple of summertime and childhood, s’mores don’t actually require a campfire.

Put summertime and campfires together, and you can’t help thinking of s’mores. These little crunchy, gooey treats are a classic part of summer camp and family bonfires.

Even when summer is fading fast — or if your campfire plans got rained out — all is not lost. You can make this tasty summertime favorite indoors. Children love to assemble s’mores, and the process is easy enough for even very young children to build their own. Of course, like an open campfire, an indoor broiler is dangerous for little fingers, so supervise children carefully and be sure the s’mores have cooled enough to the touch before trying to eat them.

S’mores are also a fun indulgence for adults who are watching their calories, weight or saturated fat intake but crave an occasional dessert. Eat in moderation, of course.
