Tennessee is considered the sixth unhealthiest state in the nation, in part because we are overweight or obese and don’t move enough.

Although there are many options for getting fit or active after work, sometimes it can be hard to find the motivation after a long day. Many studies have found that simple movement throughout the day can have dramatic health effects. According to Scientific American, non-exercise motions, done for several periods a day, can do the trick. This could mean holding a meeting while walking outside, taking the stairs rather than the elevator or even just walking to your co-worker’s desk to talk instead of emailing.

Saturday morning hot yoga is still a great choice but it might not be enough. Small efforts throughout the day can have a big impact on your overall health and help combat the health risks of sitting at a desk all week long.
