For the health-minded dessert lovers in your life, try this delicious pear crumble. This healthy holiday treat is perfect for holiday meals or everyday dinners. Serve it at room temperature or warm, with a scoop of low-fat frozen yogurt.
Holiday Pear Crumble
- 1 ½ cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- ⅓ cup whole-wheat flour
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 5 tablespoons canola oil
- 3 ½ pounds ripe but firm Anjou pears, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- ½ cup real maple syrup
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- To prepare the topping, combine the oats, walnuts, brown sugar, flour and cinnamon in a mixing bowl. Drizzle with the oil and stir until evenly moist.
- To prepare the filling, combine the pears, maple syrup, raisins, cranberries, flour and lemon juice in a large bowl and mix well. Transfer the mixture to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish sprayed lightly with cooking spray. Sprinkle the topping over the pears.
- Bake the crumble until the pears are tender and the topping is golden; about 45 to 50 minutes. Let stand for at least 10 minutes before serving.
