Video recipe: No-Bake Granola Bars

5 ingredients + 15 minutes = healthy snack

Most granola bars are expensive candy bars with a few nuts and catchy slogans. Make this healthy five-ingredient no-bake granola bar in less than 15 minutes, and keep it handy for your family all week. Remember: Smart snacking is an important part of every healthy diet.

  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup pitted dates (the fresh sticky ones work best)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter (almond butter also works)
  • 1 cup roasted almonds, loosely chopped

Mix them together and pour onto wax paper. Press them flat until they are tightly packed. We used the top of a kitchen mallet.

I just made these, and they are yummy, however I’m not sure how to “finish” them. They are still pretty sticky, I pounded with a mallet in a cookie sheet with plastic wrap on the bottom. I can’t imagine cutting them, they are too soft. Any suggestions? If I can’t get them to set up we will eat as granola!

Hi, Claudia, I consulted our expert and she said they might be a bit gooey but shouldn’t be so much so that they cannot be cut. She recommended: 1) Be sure you pour onto wax paper and press them flat until they are tightly packed. They may need to sit out on the counter to dry out a bit. 2) If all else fails, she said, roll them into balls and eat them like that. She has done that with recipes that were a bit too gooey. Another tip: Also, someone else in our office made the recipe for a cycling snack but used more oats and only a dab of peanut butter. Hope this helps! – Linda
